Brief overview of the project

FIRST OF ALL, I LIVE IN A SMALL TOWN AND DON'T GET TO DO ENOUGH WITH HYDRONIC HEATING. MY PLAN IS TO CONTINUE LEARNING AS MUCH AS I CAN AND EVENTUALLY SPECIALIZE IN RESIDENTIAL/LIGHT COMMERCIAL BOILER SYSTEMS. IDRONICS AND COFFEE WITH CALEFFI HAS BEEN A GREAT HELP WITH THIS LEARNING PROCESS. IF I COULD BE DOING THIS EVERYDAY I WOULD.

I DESIGNED THIS PROJECT WITH A CALEFFI SEP4 HYDRAULIC SEPARATOR. WHEN A HYDRAULIC SEPARATOR IS REQUIRED, THE SEP4 IS THE ONLY WAY TO GO. UNIONS, AIR SEPARATION, DIRT SEPERATION, MAGNETIC SEPARATION, HYDRAULIC SEPARATION, ALL WRAPPED IN CUSTOM MOLDED INSULATION.

THIS JOB WAS A RETROFIT FOR A 1960'S LOCAL MEDICAL CLINIC / DENTAL CLINIC. THE EXISTING CAST IRON BOILER WAS REPLACED WITH TWO MOD-CON BOILERS. THE OLD PIPING WAS A POORLY DESIGNED MONO FLOW TEE ARRANGMENT SERVING FINNED BASEBOARDS(CONVECTORS). BEING THAT THE BUILDING IS MOSTLY OFFICE SPACES, THE POORLY DESIGNED MONO FLOW PIPING COULD NEVER BE PROPERLY BALANCED FOR EVEN HEATING. THEREFORE THE THE OWNER WANTED EACH OFFICE ON A ZONE VALVE. I WANTED IT TO BE VERY SIMPLE AND SERVICE-FRIENDLY, SO I BUILT A MANIFOLD, KEEPING ALL ZONE VALVES IN THE MECHANICAL ROOM. I USED A GRUNDFOS MAGNA3 VARIABLE SPEED PUMP AND TEKMAR CONTROLS.

AFTER WATCHING COFFEE WITH CALEFFI'S "DESIGNING FOR CONDESING BOILER PERFORMANCE" I DECIDED TO TRY LOWERING THE DESIGN TEMP TO GET CLOSER TO CONDENSING TEMPERATURES, AND THEN INCREASING THE BASEBOARD IN EACH OFFICE. UNFORTUNATELY MY TIME ONLY ALLOWED ME TO BUILD THE MECHANICAL ROOM. THAT'S WHY THE ZONE PIPING ISN'T COMPLETE ON THE MANIFOLD IN THE PICTURE. ANOTHER WORKMATE FINISHED THE PIPING AND BASEBOARD. THE SYSTEM HAS BEEN RUNNING FOR THE PAST COUPLE WEEKS AND  AS OUTDOOR TEMPERATURES CONTINUE TO DROP FOR WINTER,  EVERYTHING IS WORKING PERFECTLY.

THANKS CALEFFI! I'M CONSTANTLY LOOKING FOR WAYS TO IMPROVE SO PLEASE CRITIQUE AWAY.
