Brief overview of the project

Boiler plant upgrade for a secondary school. Replaced an old inefficient boiler plant with four rack-mounted, condensing IBC boilers and Grundfos 3-speed pumps for a total of 25 GPM on the primary loop.

Caleffi 4 inch hydraulic separator was used; it was our first attempt at using this separator and we have had no issues, works great!

The IBC boilers came with air vents, I did not provide them. They might be Caleffi. We did add vent cap drain tubes; the picture was taken while we were still working on them.

The other old boiler is still there and will be replaced in a future phase. Those existing 4 big storage tanks are for DHW.

We had to add a balancing valve, to balance the load between the new and the existing boilers.

Design goal

Design goal was to replace an inefficient boiler nearing its end of service life with new condensing efficient boilers and energy efficient pumps.

Heat emitters are baseboard radiators, fan coil units and air handling units.

Installation description

Retrofit. Time restrictions were tight so scheduling and product needed to arrive on schedule.

System performance
