Entry # 54

Copper Mountain Resort

Designer: JT Mueller

Customer: Copper Mountain, Colo.

Installation Location: Convention Center Upgrade

Brief overview of the project

This convention center at Copper Mountain replaced a 2 million BTU atmospheric boiler with two Lochinvar FTXL725 condensing boilers.  PSI used a NA546510A 4" DIRTCAL dirt separator to protect the Magna pumps and the FTXL boilers from dirt in the system.

Design goal

The system is heating only and serves baseboard and large fan coils in the convention halls.  Both of the new boilers had to fit in the footprint of the old 2 million BTU unit.  At 8,000 feet elevation and with a heat loss calculation, PSI was able to reduce the overall size of the new boilers while still being able to cover the building load.

Installation description

The boilers are the first phase of a retrofit.  Another 2 million atmospheric boiler will come out in the second phase.

System performance

The system was started a week ago and is ready for spring snow storms and full houses!
